PRESENT YOURSELVES OUR READERS...
"We exist since 1997. Since that time, we've get through few line-up changes, but it looks like we have it stable at the moment. So Vesania is: Orion - guitars and vocals, Daray - drums, Siegmar - keyboards and digital programming and Heinrich - bass. We're considered to be a black metal band, I'd say we're kind of "modern" black metal. With recording of the second album called "God the Lux" we've signed management deal with Massive Management and album deal with Napalm Records, and so we're coming out from total underground."
WHO ARE VESANIA BAND MEMBERS?
"Me (Orion) and Daray - we're just musicians now. You can say "professional musicians", because we do nothing more than playing metal, and so our money to live we take from it. Despite of playing in Vesania, we participate in Behemoth and Vader, and that means we're on tour or at the studio almost all the time. Heinrich, our bass player is just a regular person, sometimes with regular job, sometimes without it, you know. Siegmar, the keymaster, lives in his house in the forest and creates strange sounds and graphic designs.. That's all he's doing at the moment. Once we've met years ago, we have one common purpose - Vesania."
WHEN DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED THE BAND?
"As I said before, it was back in 1997. A bit too late, to be one of the first, and a bit too early, to try to appear immediately at the scene. We we're just beginners then, so we wanted to wait till our work is worth showing up. So first our studio recording comes from 1999, but was released in 2002. "
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND...
"Me, Daray and Heinrich, were playing in the band called Xesbeth. We were 15-16 then. Once we just decided to do something more extreme, to do a black metal band. All those early Norwegian stuff, bands like Emperor, Mayhem, Satyricon then fascinated us, you know what I mean. So the last song of Xesbeth, became the first song of Vesania. I always had this idea on my mind, there was just a proper moment in time needed to start it and make the idea come true."
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS?
"Our first album, "Firefrost Arcanum", we've recorded as a totally unaware people. We were collecting money for the recording session through years (in Poland it's not really easy to earn the money for the recording, especially, if you're still learning, studying, and plus we do not come from the rich families). It was really hard time, the session took few months. We had to face bad luck, unlucky co incidents all the time. You know, the studio in rebuilding, crushing hard disks, I even crushed the borrowed car while driving to the studio. We had just one purpose, to finish this record, and to do it good enough, to find the label immediately. Otherwise, we'd have to work for next few years to do another one. Our main goal was to be released by Empire Records. Once we finally finished the material, we've sent the very first copy to this label. The answer was "yes", so our efforts were worth of all our time and nerves."
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWING?
"It's a bit too early to talk about it. "God the Lux" has just been released, we're now preparing to the future tours. As for the following record, we have some plans to use some more classical elements, maybe some of the classical instruments, we'll see."
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY?
"First important thing was signing the deal with Empire Records. After they released our first album, they started to promote us. So we did some single shows, then Metalmania Festival with bands like Samael and Marduk, and finally the first tour (with Vader and Decapitated). After a year we've been chosen "the newcomer 2003" by two most important polish metal magazines, Metal Hammer and Thrash'em All. Another breakthrough for us was signing the deal with Massive Management and album deal with Napalm Records. The promotional campaign has now worldwide range, and we already have a huge amount of concerts scheduled. We're coming out of only Polish market; it's all becoming really serious now."
WOULD YOU LIKE TO INTRODUCE US "GOD THE LUX"?
"God the Lux", our second album, is a mature, modern black metal music. It's cold and mechanical in the sphere of sound. We've prepared most of the songs in order to play them live, so they're dynamic, pompous and intensive. It's now chaos controlled. And, what is more, Vesania is that kind of band, which takes care about every form of expression. So our album is for these people, who expect a bit more from a metal band, than only the music itself."
WHY SUCH TITLE?
"It's a result of my everlasting habit - playing with words. It's English and Latin mixed, god-light, but it sounds, as it was "god deluxe". Of course it's connected with lyrical and visual content of the album."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF ALBUM?
"We decided to divide this recording session into few parts, so we've worked in few separated places, to make the whole idea of the album possible. We just needed some time between each instrument's recordings to have the distance, to decide in which way to proceed. Beside it, each of us needed the comfortable conditions, plus we do not live in the same place. So drums and guitars we recorded at Hendrix Studio in Lublin, with Arkadiusz "Malta" Malczewski. We know him very well, he's our friend and he works regularly with Behemoth. We just knew what could we expect. Then, after a break, Heinrich recorded bass guitar at Kokszoman Studio in Warsaw. In a meantime, Siegmar was recording all keyboards and digital tracks at his home. We came back to Hendrix to do vocals and put everything together. Then we mixed and mastered the album at Hertz Studio in Bialystok. Wieslawscy brothers are two of the best sound engineers here in Poland. They're doing better and better, still progressing, investing, and learning. It seems like Hertz Studio will become the most known metal studio in Poland. We just knew, that they will do no mistakes, and will do it the best we can expect. The whole recording session was a long process, but definitely worth of hard work. The final effect is just what we meant to achieve. So, as for the production itself, I'd say it's a result of the common work of all the sound engineers and our ideas."
ANY PARTICULAR CONCEPT CONCERNING THE ALBUM?
"It's just my personal philosophy, what I want to transfer into our lyrics. We're always preparing our albums to be the concept ones. And so it happened in this case. "God the Lux" is the story of god and light. It analyzes this dependence, and tries to find the most important parts of the structure of human within and between these forces. There's a lot about glimpses and dazzles of light, labyrinths and all that lead human being on its way to understanding. God I'm talking about is not a christian god, it's "god" in general. By enclosing "lux" in title, it's suggested not to forget about luciferian interpretation. There are masks and stories of disguise, that's what I always include in our lyrics. All that I write is not to be understood strictly. And so all these strange titles and phrases, and "statements" below each song. Just try to go through it with music, it will make you think."
WHAT'S THE MOOD OF IT?
"Anxiety, it's the key word here. The mood is pompous, forceful, terrifying, but in general, it's anxious. That's what we expect from our music, and it's seems like we've managed to do it."
THE SOUND IS DARK AND OBSCURE, RIGHT?
"Not really. It's rather bright than dark. It's supposed to contain "light" as the title says, everywhere. The separate thing is the meaning of this light... But if concerning the sound only, it's rather clear, strong and massive. It has some obscure elements, but it general, it sounds mechanical and cold I'd say."
THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM?
"We're not attempting to be salient. There have been so many things already said and played in music, that it's extremely hard to be totally original and salient. The most characteristic thing in our album and band in general, is that we're not only the music. You can expect much more, the entire idea is gently selected, very detailed and full of "empty spaces", the moments, which are supposed to make people think. What "God the Lux" has to offer, is the entire concept, with all it's details and hidden thoughts. Just try to focus for a few moments, while listening to it, read the lyrics, statements."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
"The album was released here in Poland in April. The feedback is really frequent and positive in general. We're that kind of band, which you can, let's say "love or hate". So we're collecting almost only extreme opinions. But the very most of them are positive; I'm getting tons of emails from the fans waiting to see us live. As for the rest of the world - the album has just been released, so it's to early to judge the feedback. Everything is going in a good direction, that's what I know at the moment."
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND?
"What I want to communicate, is just my personal philosophy, you can taste it in our lyrics. I'm not trying to pretend to be anyone special, to be the prophet of the satanic religion, to tell people the truth about the world of sin. It's all closer to the emotions and searching for the universality, than to any of the common religions. Of course, we're really close to some them, or it's better to say, against some of them, but the entire communication is about the inner force of human being itself."
"Sure. We're starting the tours in the middle of January 2006. Poland first, then Western Europe, coming back through Scandinavia, to Baltic Lands and Russia. It's going to be like 60-70 shows in a row, so a huge thing, especially for us."
YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY?
"Everything you kill, is yours, forever". That's my favorite sentence describing my philosophy. Always trying to be the wiseman between fools and world of hypocrisy."
THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
"We're looking forwards to the upcoming tours, can't wait. Our future depends on our work, and all we can do is to work hard. With this album we're planning to show the name of our band to the people worldwide, to make the soil for the future plans."
ANY LAST REMARKS?
"Thank you for this interview, I hope we'll be able to talk in the future again. Thanks for supporting us, and see you at the concerts!"
