INTERVIEW TO UNCHAIN
ARE UNCHAIN AS BAND MEMBERS?
"Tom Fischer: Voice
Mike Schneider: Rhythm-guitar
David Pariat: Lead-guitar (new)
Amy Lee K.: Bass
Gil Reber: Drums (new)."
WHEN DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED THE BAND?
"The band was founded in the ninties, but a lot of musicians came and
went. The Line-up which recorded the album was together since 2002."
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND...
"The band startet as a school-band and took the first steps in local bars
and parties. with the time, the music and the band became more professional
and played more and more on bigger stages. we always wanted to be a live
band and so we played almost every weekend for several years. in 2003,
we definitly decided to record an album and we knew, that we could do
it in this line-up."
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS?
"this is our first album and for that, we're quite satisfied. we wanted
to do this record with someone we can learn from and so we decided to
do it in germany with akeem k÷hler (primal fear, sinner), which was the
best desicion we made - i guess you can hear it. the sound of the album...that's
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWING?
"we already got some new songs and hope we can go to record the second
one next year, 2006. we would like to work again in germany, but the plans
aren't made, yet.2
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY?
"playing our asses off since 2002 and it's gonna be continued!"
WOULD YOU LIKE TO INTRODUCE US 'UNCHAIN'?
"we're 5 guys (4 men and 1 woman) from downtown switzerland and we just
love to play rock'n'roll. that's our mission. we love to play live and
be in contact with the audience - because they make the party. finally
we got the first record in our hands and hope you like it as much as we
HOW DID YOU GET CONTACTED BY METAL HEAVEN?
"we already had a deal in switzerland, but we wanted to go out our country,
too. ironically, a headhunter called us for searching a deal in germany
for us. so we just had to say "yes". a week later he came with the deal
of metal heaven. the rest is history.2
WHAT'S ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF ALBUM?
"as already said, we recorded it in germany with akeem. we heared an album
he had produced and we loved the sound of the guitars and drums on it.
so we just drove to him, discussed and found out, that both parts wanted
to work together. so we started to finalize the songs and then we went
for one month in the studio "house of music" near stuttgart. it was really
great, because we could eat and sleep in the studio, so we really were
24 hours per day surrounded by our work.2
ANY PARTICULAR CONCEPT CONCERNING THE ALBUM?
"we wanted to make the album simple and groovy, because we're not a studio
band. we're a live band, and that was what we wanted on this album. just
plug in and play. we tried to catch the live-groove and feeling on the
tracks. that's why it became this straight."
WHAT'S THE MOOD OF IT?
THE BASE OF YOUR SOUND IS SEVENTIES HARD ROCK, RIGHT?
"right. some people ask us, why we don't make more modern sound...well,
why do you wear your hair as you do? because you like it. we want to make
the sound we like and as you said, this is the seventies hard rock."
THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM?
"it's a real hardrock album. we recorded some of the harder songs we got
and tried to make it pushy. i hope we received."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
"quite funny. because everyone likes another song. some of the critics
say that this song is good and the other is shit. some other critics say
it complementary. you know, this is our first record, and i tried to read
something out of the critics, but in the end, i just had to recognise
that it's better to listen into ourselves and say with what we're satisfied
and what we could do better the next time."
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND?
"life with its ups and downs. for us it's just rock'n'roll - and this
one is not dead!"
"we're planning to make a tour in germany later this year. and we hope
to come to italy too! but we have to look at this with our bookers."
YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY?
"doesn't matter what you've got. it matters what you make of it. so try
to make the best and take your work serious, not yourself."
THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
"as already said: playing on and on and on. and next year a new album."
