We are Strange Day from Urgence disk Records in Geneva.
WHO ARE STRANGE DAY AS BAND MEMBERS?
There are two members. First of all DDDmix for the electronics elements on the songs. He's also member of BAK XIII, an EBM-80's band, FADE, a metal band and many others bands. Then I, Jack the Ripper, play the main jazz elements on the cd.
WHEN DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED THE BAND?
We founded the band in september 2004.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND...
We knew each other since several months when we met in a dark-metal night. DDDmix told me he wanted to create a band of ambiant-style. In 2004 I used to play jazz music in some hospital or piano-bar, so I told him I played piano too and we met three days later in his studio to begin Strange Day. He began to create an industrial-rythmic and told to put a bass, the only bass it cames was a jazz-walking bass.
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS?
Efforts?! We absolutely didn’t any efforts. We met once a week to write music without thinking of any records. Then someday we realised we had enough songs to record a cd.
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY?
The orientation taken with this mix between jazz and industrial music.
HOW TO INTRODUCE YOUR ALBUM?
We wanted the album was a trip where each song is a different ambiance. A cd where the imagination of the listener was working.
WHY "MUSIC TO SLEEP FOREVER"?
At the beginning of the sessions, DDDmix listened the new tracks before sleeping. It’s real that the cd is really an ambient cd. In fact we decided early to give this name to the cd. We just found it was a good name.
I NOTICED A JAZZ BACKGROUND, RIGHT?
Yes. As I said, I have jazz-man formation on the piano. I used to play in the piano-bar during the summer to earn a little bit money. So it was natural that some jazz elements appears in Strange Day.
WHAT'S ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF ALBUM?
DDDmix works in a production society so we could record each track when we wanted. The only track we recorded in a different way is the last track of the cd that we recorded in the Drone Studio in Geneva, because we wanted DDDmix sang and Thomas, from the band Sybreed and MXD, played guitar.
ANY PARTICULAR CONCEPT CONCERNING THE ALBUM?
Except we wanted the cd was a trip, no.
WHAT'S THE MOOD OF IT?
This band don’t really have real ambitions. We just play for the fun. If listeners like our music we’re happy.
THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM?
It will be in the same orientation, but we’re going to work on a big project with the scientific research. We ‘re going to put musical illustration on presentation movies of the physic faculty of the Geneva University.
WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
We have a lot of contact with the alternative jazz labels on the USA. The gothic movement like us too.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND?
We wanted to give to the listener the musical landscape to imagine what he wants.
TOURING PLANS?
No, we don’t think Strange Day is a tour band. We will play several times for special occasions only.
YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY?
Just taking day after day!
THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
We’re going to work on the project with the research and then… we will see.
ANY LAST REMARKS?
Don’t be afraid with the name of the tracks, it’s voluntary difficult! The cd is a trip, not tracks one after another. And have a good trip with us.
