PRESENT YOURSELVES TO OUR READERS...
Prophet: My name is Prophet, I am the vocalist for St. Madness.
WHO ARE ST. MADNESS AS BAND MEMBERS?
Prophet: Prophet - Vocals & Lyrics; Mudd – Guitar; Devlin Lucius – Bass; and Sircyko – Drums.
WHEN DID YOU FOUND THE BAND?
Prophet: The band was originally founded in May of 1993 under the name "CROWN OF THORNS." We released two CD's, "Loneliness Is Black" in 1994 and "The Spiritual Visions Of St. Madness" in 1997.
In mid 1997 we found out that a Christian rock group from New Jersey had already trademarked the name "Crown Of Thorns" back in 1991. We realized that we would have to change our band's name, so I convinced the guys to change our name to "St. Madness" for two reasons; 1. the name was already on our then current CD that we had out at the time; and 2. we wanted to make the name transformation as easy as possible for our fans.
So, in late 1997 we stopped being called "Crown Of Thorns" and became "ST. MADNESS." We later re-released "The Spiritual Visions of St. Madness" in 1999 under the new title "SPIRITUAL VISIONS."
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND...
Prophet: I actually got a phone call from a guitar player in March or April of 1993 who said he was looking for a vocalist for his band. When I went down to see them, VAMPIERCE ‘EM was the second guitarist and Randall "Mad Drums" Garton was the drummer.
The guy who had originally called me wasn't a very good guitarist so Vampierce ‘Em, Randy and I had a meeting and we decided to start our own band. The very first name we came up with was "Bloody Murder" but we quickly changed it to "Crown of Thorns."
Both Vampierce ‘Em and Randall Garton ended up performing on and co-writing the "Loneliness Is Black" CD later for "Crown Of Thorns" in 1994.
Vampierce ‘Em also co-wrote and played guitar on "Spiritual Visions,” half of the songs on "God Bless America" 1998 and part of the songs on "We Make Evil Fun" 2003.
WHAT ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS?
Prophet: We have so far released 6 CD's and are currently in the studio recording a semi-acoustic record entitled "DEATH DRIVES A BUICK."
WHAT ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWING?
St. Madness fans are THE GREATEST!!! I feel honored just to know that so many people enjoy our brand of "CARNIMETAL" all over the world!!! For us it's about being "Entertainer's" and not ever trying to be "Rock Stars." We pride and challenge ourselves on getting an audience to have a good time!!! We are about partying and friendship, supporting metal music and it's way of life.
Our fans are cool because they love metal music and they are open minded wich is why they like what we do. We write music that has something for everyone. St. Madness will never be put in anyone’s tiny little genre box. We include many styles of music in our song writing. The people who get off on our music usually have a broad span of music that they listen to.
We often include our fans and friends in our show!!! Our concerts get pretty crazy at times and the fans have come to love and expect that from St. Madness shows!!!
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY?
Prophet: We are here to ENTERTAIN people and nothing more. When I go home at night I am just a normal guy who loves his family just like everyone else. I am not looking for anyone to take my lyrics and go act on them. The things I write about is my way of venting in an artistic way. I call it my "ARTISTIC AGGRESSION." It's to be enjoyed but not lived.
The St. Madness family is a tight knit family. Most of us (old band member's and new) are all still friends. We created a site on "Myspace.com" dedicated to the people who have worked hard for the band over the years called "THE HISTORY OF ST. MADNESS" (http://www.myspace.com/prophet667stmadness). Here, we have band members, crew members, good friends and fans of the band. It's our way of giving tribute to all of them for their hard work and dedication.
What I would like people to know is that we all respect each other even after all these years. The bottom line is, we all believe in ST. MADNESS and METAL MUSIC. If you would like to see what past members of St. Madness are doing now just go to the web site above. All the members are in the top friends.
We have always been completely sincere about our music, song writing, and our heartfelt gratitude for our fans. We believe in uniting all types of metal music together.
ANY INTRODUCTIVE WORDS TO "667"?
Prophet: 666 is the number of the beast so 667 makes us "The Neighbor Of The Beast." Also known as "ACROSS THE HALL FROM HELL." We have used 667 since 1995. It's just something we have fun with.
THE SOUND IS PURE STATESIDE ROCK'N'ROLL...
Prophet: We also have a strong punk influence in our sound. For me I learn something from everyone so my influences ranges from Led Zepplin to Slayer, to Johnny Cash to Black Sabbath to Opeth to Sepultura, etc.
I HEARD YOU HAVE MANY INFLUENCES...
Prophet: Too many to mention them all. As I said we learn from everyone. Here are a few of our influences................
Iron Maiden, Slayer, Kiss, Ozzy, Elvis, Six Feet Under, BLS, Nine Inch Nails, Pantera, Down, Opeth, Sepultura, Judas Priest, Johnny Cash, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rebel Meets Rebel, Pink Floyd, Death, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, Dio, Bochellie, AC/DC, Venom.
THE MAIN ISSUES OF YOUR SOUND?
Prophet: To create and perform the greatest metal music that we can. We are very heavy but we have lots of melody in our music. I write songs with the audience in mind and it is very important to me that you can understand most of what I am singing. I enjoy it when people sing with me at our shows!!!
ANY PARTICULAR CONCEPT CONCERNING THE ALBUM?
Prophet: The "VAMPIRES IN THE CHURCH" CD is a mix of craziness!!! The title track I wrote the lyric's about my distain for all the priests that had been molesting children. There is no real concept to the record other than balls out metal!!!
WHAT'S THE MOOD OF IT?
Prophet: The mood of the record is PURE RAGE!!!
THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM?
Prophet: The new record that we are recording is called "DEATH DRIVES A BUICK" on it are some songs that are very close to my heart. There is a song called "The Sunday Paper" that the lyric's are a tribute to my father who died on Feb 15th 2000. There is also a song of tribute to a friend of ours who lost his life in 2006 when he crashed his motorcycle. The song is entitled "Dancing On His Grave."
We have always wanted to go to Brazil to play some concerts so we wrote a song about it called "Goin To Brazil." We also included an acoustic version of our song "Arizona"
I think on this CD I speak much more from my heart in the lyric's.
We are hoping for an early 2008 release of "DEATH DRIVES A BUICK"
WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
Prophet: The feedback for "Vampires In The Church" has been great!!! Mr. Tony Monteiro - lead writer for ROCK BRIGADE MAGAZINE in Brazil picked it for his top ten favorite CD's of 2006!!! ROCK BRIGADE MAGAZINE is the largest metal magazine in all of Latin America. We get lots of radio airplay all over the world. We are very grateful that people enjoy our music and we are very proud to keep bringing you the best CARNIMETAL that we can!!! People have been writing us from all over the globe and telling us how much they like the record.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND?
Prophet: Get out and enjoy yourselves!!! Life is for living!!! SUPORT METAL MUSIC!!!
Prophet: None at this time but that could change easily.
YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY?
Prophet: Be good to each other, life is so short for us all and we all have many struggles to deal with. Patience, love and tolerance for all our fellow human beings.
THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
Prophet: St. Madness will just keep on making the metal music that we love and hope that one day we can come and play concerts for everyone around the world who supports us and metal music in general. Metal music fans are the best on the planet!!!
ANY LAST REMARKS? Prophet: I would like to say THANK YOU to Emanuele for giving me this time to share with your readers more about St. Madness!!! I am very proud and honored!!!
LONG LIVE THE FANS OF METAL MUSIC!!!
