PRESENT YOURSELVES OUR READERS... "We are Siebenbürgen. We play somekind of "dark" metal with both gothic and black metal influences. Some describe our music
as "vampiric" metal because our lyrics mainly deal with creatures of the dark and our name means Transylvania."
WHO ARE SIEBENBURGEN AS BAND MEMBERS?
Marcus Ehlin - vocals, guitars
Anders Rosdahl - drums
Richard Bryngelsson - guitars
Erika Roos - vocals
Niklas Sandin - bass."
WHEN DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED THE BAND?
"Well, Anders and Ehlin started the band back in -94, I think that was the first time they met each other actually. They
got really drunk together and starting to talk about forming a band, and a couple of weeks later the first rehearsal
happened and Siebenbürgen was born."
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND...
"i I'm sorry but that information is something of legends and myths that I'm not allowed to disclose at this moment. Or
because I joined in 2000 I don't really know what went on in the beginning ;)..."
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS?
"We have released 4 albums previous to "Darker Designs and Images" and those are: "Loreia", "Grimjaur", "Delictum" and
"Plagued be thy Angel". The first two "Loreia" and "Grimjaur" have Swedish vocals on them the others are all sung in the
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWING?
"We seem to have fans from all over the world. We get fan mail from the strangest places so I guess they like what we do."
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY?
"Getting published was of course a high-point of our careers. Also the Mexican tour we did after the "Plagued be thy Angel"
album really rocked!"
HOW TO INTRODUCE US "DARKER DESIGNS & IMAGES"?
"I think that "Darker designs & images" are a mixture of our past four albums with a twist of Siebenbürgen 2005. There are
lots of elements in the music on this album; thrash, black, goth, you name it! In my opinion the lyrics on "Darker designs
& images" are more dark and violent than the past ones, most lyrics are about an ancient legend of the battle lord Nozterra,
a prehistoric war demon. The lyrics are all about this beast and his army of the dead in one way or another. From the lord
himself to his assembly of charlatan vampire queens. This album is as close to a concept album as we've ever been. Our next
album will continue to reveal the truths and mystics about the great Nozterra legend. The intro of the album is the
beginning of the resurrection of the ancient demon lord Nozterra. Spoken in primordial tongue, the words of the Elders
shall spawn the night, and control the universe once again."
WHY SUCH TITLE?
"We wanted a title that would stand out a bit and I think we succeeded with that. The meaning is simple; it is to reflect a
darker Siebenbürgen, we went through the fires of hell to get this album recorded and we are back stronger and more focused
than before. "Darker Designs and Images" is a step forward for us but at the same time we retain that which is our roots,
the darker metal that you can find on our first releases. We wanted this album to have a touch of the old Siebenbürgen as
well as the new and we are very pleased with the result."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF ALBUM?
"We produced and recorded the album ourselves because we wanted total control over the production this time. It was
recorded in our own studio; Sundown in Stockholm."
ANY PARTICULAR CONCEPT CONCERNING THE ALBUM?
"There is an underlying theme, a small story hidden in there for the listener to discover if they can. The topics of
"Darker designs & images", are basicly small stories about the King Nozterra and his sorounding fiends. As I said before,
the new lyrics are more aggressive and darker than before, more hate and destruction, not as "romantic" as the older ones.
The past years have been hard for us, maybe that has dyed the lyrics a bit."
WHAT'S THE MOOD OF IT?
"As always the mood is darkness and her beloved gifts that she spoil us with. This album has more of that of course maybe
even a more warlike mood than before, the listener must decide for themselves."
THE SOUND IS MELODIC POWER GOTHIC METAL, RIGHT?
"The sound is metal! Dark, sweet and venomous! Our base is traditional heavy melodic metal and it has always been so from
the very beginning of the band. We like to think that we play dark metal. It is true that we have some gothic and even black
metal elements (or atmosphere) in our music but as I said, the foundation of Siebenbürgen is melodic heavy metal."
THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM?
"That we finally got it out to our fans! We had to fire our lead guitar player because we couldn't agree on certain
business arrangements. That was hard because he had co-written about half the new songs on the album, this meant that we
again had to make more songs to fill out the space that happened when he was gone from Siebenbürgen. Looking back at the
whole situation it was the best thing that could happen to us because it got us even more together and the music is more
Siebenbürgen than what it would have been if this hadn't occurred."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
"Overall it has been surprisingly good hehe. Either the critics hate us or love us, and personally I think its better
to have some one really get upset with you than to have no feelings at all. I mean I rather score a 1 out of 10 than a 5.
I think it is because Siebenbürgen falls in the middle of two genres so to speak, we have black metal elements and also
gothic influences in our music so I think maybe the critics have a hard time to put us in one genre alone and that make us
harder to review I guess."
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND?
"Blood, magic, and unbridled steaming lust! Just as a good life should be lived!"
"We are currently trying to get some kind of tour going but it is hard because all of us have other commitments that we
have to consider as well, its hard to arrange something that fits with all the six of us. Hopefully we'd get something done
in the beginning of the new year even if it is only festival gigs."
YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY?
"If you can't drink it. Fuck it! If you can't fuck it. Drink it! Just trying to keep my head over the water. That's hard
THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
"Well we are in the process of writing new material so don't think we will take four more years to release something new.
I hope we can have something ready by next summer. Time will tell."
ANY LAST REMARKS?
"Never lock the door at night and keep the house garlic free thank you! Stay fucking metal! Thank you for the interwiev."
