INTERVIEW TO SCAAR
PRESENT
YOURSELVES OUR READERS...
"Well... we are a Swedish metal-band that plays kind of thrashy metal,
I guess."
WHO ARE SCAAAR AS BAND MEMBERS?
"We have Alex Jonsson on vocals, Richard Holmgren on drums, Alf Johansson
on guitars and Mats Vassfjord on bass."
WHEN DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED THE BAND?
"The band was founded in 1999 in Eskilstuna, Sweden."
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND...
"Alex and Alf got together because Alf had some guitar-riffs that he thought
Alex should hear, when they had a couple of songs ready they called in
drummer Richard Holmgren and then me (Mats) on bass."
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS?
"We've recorded one album prior to the current one ('The Second Incision').
It was a 6-track cd we produced and distributed ourselves that we calld
'Scarred For Life'. It came out in 2002 and we got some great press and
reviews from it in magazines all over the world actually. It's a really
good album and people should really pick it up if they can find it..."
WHAT'S
ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWING?
"Do you mean future recordings? Well, we're writing stuff for a new cd
right now, which we will hopefully start recording in the fall, but it's
really to soon to talk about it yet."
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY?
"We're just a band playing music... what could be important about that?
;) No, seriously... I'm not sure what you mean by this question that I
haven't already answered."
ANY INTRODUCING WORDS AT 'THE SECOND INCISION'?
"'The Second Incision' is the newest cd from SCAAR, and it's a collection
of really great songs that we are very proud of and it really shows you
where the band is at right now. It really stands up well, compared to
any cd by any metalband right now and we're getting some great reviews
of it so far, so hopefully people will start buying it by the truck-loads...
:)"
WHY SUCH TITLE?
"The title really isn't much to talk about... this is our second cd and
we just thought the title was clever and well-put."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF ALBUM?
"We recorded and mixed it at Studio underground in Västerås, Sweden. We
produced it ourselves with some help from engineer. The sound is very
"straight-in-your-fkn-face" and we're really happy with they way it turned
out."
ANY PARTICULAR CONCEPT CONCERNING THE ALBUM?
"No real concept... we're just trying to write the kind of songs we like
to hear and play. There's no master-plan behind it all..."
WHAT'S THE MOOD OF IT?
"Mood? Hmm... well... I would have to say it's an "angry" mood. But I
hear people say they become happy whenever they listen to it. So I guess
it's more up to the listener to decide than for us to say."
THE THRASH SEEMS THE BASE OF YOUR SOUND, RIGHT?
"Well, partly... It's always hard to label your own music, but people
somehow feel a need to label bands and put them in different categorys...
I have no idea what our category should be called and I don't think that
we as a band try to fit in to any particular category, we just write and
play what we think sounds good and if our listeners wants to put us in
a certain category, then that's fine, I think that should be up to the
listeners."
THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM?
"Hopefully the songs will speak for themselves and be the most salient.
Like I said.. we are really proud of this album and we hope people will
like it."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
"You mean feedback from the album? Well.. it just came out this week,
but so far we've been getting great feedback from people that have listened
to it.2
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND?
"The only thing we want is for people to have a good time listening to
our music."
TOURING PLANS?
"We want to tour eventually but for right now we're just putting together
a few shows and maybe some festivals.2
YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY?
"Live life to the fullest!? I dunno, man, we have no great philosophy
of life. We're just trying to make do with what we got and what we know
how to do!"
THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
"We're still writing material and playing live... that's what this band
is all about!"
ANY LAST REMARKS?
"We're just really happy that 'The Second Incision' is finally out so
that everybody that likes it can pick it up at their record-shop and crank
it on their stereo's, whip that fist in the air, grab that air-guitar,
have a beer and have a good time listening to it!"
