INTERVIEW TO PRO-PAIN
PRESENT
YOURSELVES OUR READERS...
"Hello !! This is Gary Meskil, the bassist/vocalist of Pro-Pain."
WHO ARE PRO-PAIN AS BAND MEMBERS?
"Gary Meskil: Bass/Vocals
Tom Klimchuck: Lead Guitar
Eric Klinger: Rhythm Guitar
JC Dwyer: Drums."
WHEN DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED THE BAND?
"Pro-Pain was founded in 1991, and our debut record "Foul Taste Of Freedom"
was released in 1992."
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND...
"We began in New York circa 1991 as a 3 piece band, and shortly after
recording a 3 song demo we were signed to the famous New Jersey based
metal label Megaforce Records. Our successful debut record "Foul Taste
Of Freedom" was released in 1992 and the band hit the road and played
over 600 gigs during the next 2 years. Our sophomore album "The Truth
Hurts" was released in 1995, and the rest is history..."
WHAT'S
ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS?
"I was in a NYHC band called Crumbsuckers from 1982-1989, and we released
2 albums on the New York label Combat Records. The albums were as follows:
Crumbsuckers - Life Of Dreams (1986)
Crumbsuckers - Beast On My Back (1988)
Pro-Pain has a more extensive catalog which includes 9 studio albums,
a cover album, a live album, a DVD, and the Best Of Pro-Pain collection."
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWING?
"Our following is worldwide and very loyal. We are very close with our
fans."
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY?
"Sold close to 1 Million units worldwide. Played well over 2,000 gigs
in over 40 countries around the globe. Played most major open air festivals
in Europe. Played a sold out arena tour with Die Bohse Onkelz. Our debut
album Foul Taste Of Freedom was nominated for a NAIRD music award for
"Album Of The Year", which is the Indy equivalant of a Grammy. Nominated
for a "New York Music Award" in the catagory "Band Of The Year"."
IN WHICH WAY DO YOU WANT TO INTRODUCE 'PROHETS OF DOOM'?
"Prophets Of Doom is without question our most political album. It speaks
very well for the band at this particular point in time."
THE HIGHLIGHTS OF IT?
"Neocon, Unamerican, Hate Marches On, One World Ain't Enough..."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF ALBUM?
"Like most of our albums, Prophets Of Doom was entirely a self produced
effort. We recorded the record in Pittsburgh Pa. at Eric Klinger's studio.
He handled the engineering and mastering, and I assumed most of the production
responsibilities."
ANY PARTICULAR CONCEPT CONCERNING THE ALBUM?
"The concept is reality based, and the reality is "current events". We
shed light on current events and offer opinions and at times criticism
on how things are being handled with regard to International affairs."
WHAT'S THE MOOD OF IT?
"The mood is dark, cold, and abrasive."
AS USUAL YOU THRASH'N'GRIND OUR EARS...
"I'll take that as a compliment (hehe)."
THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM?
"The message/lyrics, the earthy production qualities, the guitar work,
and the overall cohesiveness of the package that is Prophets Of Doom."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
"The feedback from the press has been very encouraging and postive thus
far. Now, we just have to wait for the fans reaction. So, we'll keep our
fingers crossed!!"
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND?
"I feel that Pro-Pain have always served as a barometer or time-piece
with regard to American public and political sentiment from "left of center".
We are unique in the metal realm in that our message is based in reality.
These are hard times in which we live, and one can either choose to escape
reality or confront it. We choose the latter."
TOURING PLANS?
"Yes. We will tour Europe in June/July and in the U.S. again later this
year. For more info., log onto http://www.pro-pain.com."
YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY?
"You only get the chance to live it once, so live like you were dying."
THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
"The future of any band is always hard to predict because of the many
variables. For now, we are still here...and we thank you all for your
ongoing support of Pro-Pain!!!"
