INTERVIEW TO PAIN
PRESENT YOURSELVES OUR READERS... "Peter Tägtgren from Sweden. Main man of Pain and vocalist / guitar player of Hypocrisy" WHO ARE PAIN AS BAND MEMBERS? "In the studio, it's just me." WHEN DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED THE BAND? "Pain as a solo project has been something I've been doing since the late '90s." WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND... "Basically, I just wanted an outlet to try more production ideas, and needed songs to try them out on. So I started Pain to do so." WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS? "I always try to get better and better at what I do. Some of the older stuff I can hear straight away things I'd like to change, some are better than others." WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWING? I GUESS VERY POPULAR WISE... "Well... in Sweden I have a huge Pain following, in Europe Hypocrisy have a bigger following. As long as people enjoy my music, I'm happy." THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY? "Birth, School, Work, Death." WOULD YOU LIKE TO PRESENT US 'DANCING WITH THE DEAD'? "In my ears, the best Pain album by far. Heavier, less keyboards. More melodies, more aggressive." DO YOU LIKE DANCING WITH THE DEAD? "Yes, I'm very pleased with the album." ANY PARTICULAR CONCEPT CONCERNING THE ALBUM? "Well, I had an incident where I lost my pulse for a couple of minutes. I was out in a bar after a spell of very hard work, and I guess my body just said "that's it". But it wasn't my time to die. Instead of talking to a therapist about it, I wrote a few songs. Four of the album tracks (including the title track) deal with that issue." WHAT'S THE MOOD OF IT? "Obviously, it's not a happy, sing-a-long type of record, 'cause I wasn't in that type of mood when I wrote and recorded it." THE ALBUM SHOWS A STRONG GOTHIC/ORCHESTRAL BACKGROUND, RIGHT? "I don't know... I try to make each song as good as possible, and don't really bother with deciding "this should be a gothic song, this should be a death-metal song." They come out as good as I can make them really." THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM? "Sorry, not sure I understand this question." WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK OF PRESS? "So far, it's been over the top! Really pleasing so I am very happy with that." WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND? "As heavy as possible, as aggressive as possible, but with strong songs placed in the middle." TOURING PLANS? "We're looking at that right now, but I will definitely be touring Pain this year." YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY? "I don't know..." THE FUTURE OF THE BAND? "Bright and looking good." YOUR BATTLE CRY? "Fight Fire With Fire..!"
