INTRODUCE YOURSELVES TO OUR READERS...
Hello, we’re a metal band from the West of France. We’ve just released our first album, Engraved in Memory, through Holy records.
WHO IS MISTAKEN ELEMENT?
The band is composed of five musicians: Jérémie on drums, Fanfan on bass and chorus, Sam on guitar and chorus, Hugo on guitar and Yann on lead vocals.
WHEN DID YOU FOUND THE BAND?
The band was founded in 1998 under the name of Scarr.
TELL US ABOUT THE ORIGINS OF THE BAND...
At that time, the line up was: Sam and Hugo on guitar and Jérémie on drums, with no singer and no bass. Our music at that time could be described as instrumental hardcore/destructured death metal.
WHAT ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING EFFORTS?
In 2001, after 3 years playing instrumental, we met Yann at a concert. His arrival allowed us to record our first demo: 3 titles, self-produced. Then, in 2003, Fanfan joined the band. The line-up was finally complete and we began to work on this album.
DO YOU HAVE ANY UPCOMING RECORDING PROJECTS?
We’re currently working on our second album, and others will surely follow. This first experience has made us want to take it further.
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY?
The most important moment was our meeting with Yann, then with Fanfan. The second is probably the creation of the Klonosphere group: it’s composed of 6 bands from the West of France. It’s an association and above all a group of friends. We respect all the bands for their work and music : Klone, Hacride, trepalium, M.E, GTI, Anthurus d’Archer. Of course the biggest thing for us recently has been recording the album and signing with Holy Records.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR DEBUT ALBUM?
You could call it a power death album with some trashy tendencies. We have tried to give an identity to all tracks order to create relief and contrast. We aim to create metal in its widest sense.
THE SOUND SEEMS VERY THRASHY...
True, there are some trashy sections but on the whole, the music is quite varied.
I NOTICED AN HINT OF SWEDISH MELODIC METAL...
Maybe in some of the more melodic sections true, it’s a style we like.
WHAT ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF ALBUM?
Sylvain Biguet recorded and mixed the album. He is very professional and got really involved in the project. Bruno Guinet from Top Master in Paris did the mastering. The collaboration was rich both on a personal and a musical level.
ANY PARTICULAR CONCEPT CONCERNING THE ALBUM?
For the album, we wanted to oppose the organic and the mechanic: to oppose the natural and human worlds; to contrast an organic nature with the mechanical side of humans and their organisation. The lyrics and the sleeve were created with this concept in mind.
WHAT'S THE MOOD OF THE ALBUM?
I think there’s a real depth to the album. At times the sound is minimalist, while at others it’s heavy or ambient.
THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM?
It’s our first album so it’s really great to finally have the past few years work come together like this. It’s a musical and visual work .
WHAT ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
So far we have had positive reviews in French magazines and webzines.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR MUSIC?
This music is a space of liberty for us where we can test out all our ideas. We don’t try to be too political, we prefer to reflect on our own actions as human beings.
YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY?
Sympathy, humility, authenticity. And everyone has their own truth....
THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
We would like to do a lot of concerts to make a name for ourselves and meet other bands and people. We’ve got 12 dates starting in October. We would like to do foreign tours at some point, but we’re taking it step by step for the moment. Beyond that we have plans for another album.
