Interview to LIQUID HORIZON
Interview with Michael Heck / Keyboards
PRESENT YOURSELVES OUR READERS...
"Michael : LIQUID HORIZON is a Melodic-Progressive-Metal - Band from Germany and it's a great pleasure for us to say some words to our fans and all the people in Italy who will be reading this interview."
WHO ARE LIQUID HORIZON AS BAND MEMBERS?
"Michael : We have Oliver Kilthau on Vocals and Guitar, Chuck West from Pennsylvania on the drums, Marc Schroth on Bass and my name is Michael Heck. I'm responsible for all the Keyboards."
WHEN DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED THE BAND?
"Michael : We founded the band at the beginning of the new Millennium... in the year 2000."
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND...
"Michael : Me, Marc and Oliver played together in another band before LH was founded. At this time we felt that we wanted to move in another musical direction and play more progressive music. So we decided to break up the other band and start LH with a complete new direction...And here we are...8 years and 4 records later...! ;-)"
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS?
"Michael : Over the last 8 years we have recorded 2 five song - EP's and 2 full length albums. Our latest album has been released in October 2006 and it is a concept album called "REVOLUTIONS". Right now we are working on some new songs for the next album, so we're pretty busy."
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWING?
"Michael : Right now it's a bit to early for me to say something about our next release. All I can say is that we have started to write new songs in the past few weeks and there are some really cool and interesting ideas for the next album....Hopefully we will start the next recordings in the end of 2008 or the beginning of 2009."
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY?
"Michael : The most important facts in our history so far have been two shows with the German Prog Metal Band VANDEN PLAS and a mini-tour with ADLER'S APPETITE, the actual Band of former Guns 'N Roses - drummer Steven Adler. And it has been a milestone for us to get a deal with our latest album "REVOLUTIONS" with ARTIST WORXX. The album earned us a lot of positive feedback from all around the world so far."
ANY INTRODUCING WORDS FOR "REVOLUTIONS"?
"Michael : The album focuses on the struggle for Freedom throughout history. We've focussed on some well known and important historical things in the history of mankind - to give you an example there's a trilogy of songs about the French Revolution. All in all the record deals with revolutions, some of them changed the world and our lives would be different without these things happening."
YOU OWE A QUITE PROGRESSIVE SOUND...
"Michael : Thanks very much. I take this as a compliment because personally I'm listening to a lot of progressive bands. For me "progressive" means being "appart from the mainstream". And it's great when people are saying that we kind of created our own sound and style. For sure it's a mixture of all the influences that every band member brings in when we're writing. Of course it's not easy to create something entirely new. But we always try to find a certain sound that is typical for LIQUID HORIZON. Anyway, it's a great feeling when you realize that people like our stuff as much as we do, haha..."
CAN WE CONSIDER "REVOLUTIONS" A CONCEPT-ALBUM?
"Michael : You can consider it a concept album, at least in some way. Of course it's not a concept album in the traditional way, like Dream Theater's "Scenes From A Memory" for example, where a story is being told throuout the album from start to finish. We were listening to Iced Earth’s Glorious Burden and we instantly realise that this would be the right way for us to do it – a concept piece without a real story but a common theme throughout all the songs."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF ALBUM?
"Michael : We recorded the album in our own studio, like all our other albums before. But for the mixing and mastering we went to the BAZEMENT STUDIOS of the famous producer MARKUS TESKE who has worked with VANDEN PLAS, SYMHONY X, THRESHOLD and former DREAM THEATER vocalist - CHARLIE DOMINICI for example. We felt that he was the man to give our album the right sound and I think he did a great job on it."
ANY PARTICULAR CONCEPT CONCERNING THE ALBUM?
"Michael : It's always important to fight for your rights...Either the human rights in general but also for each and every one of us...Don't forget that we all are humans and we all have the same rights of living."
WHAT'S THE MOOD OF IT?
"Michael : Musically the mood of the album is overall much heavier than all of our previous recordings. We've worked with a 7-string - guitar for the first time on this album and we brought in a lot of big orchestral elements to support the message of the songs."
THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM?
"Michael : I guess the 3-piece of the "French Revolution" we did on this album. The three songs have a tolal lengh of about 21 minutes and within them you will find everything that's kind of a trademark of the sound of the album or the sound of LIQUID HORIZON these days. From really heavy, agressive riffs, different time signatures, changes, breaks...until to very moody and atmospheric moments."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
"Michael : The feedback on the album is really great so far ! We got really good reviews and feedback from all around the world. Thank you very much for every magazine, radio-station or web-zine that's supporting us. So also a big Thank you to YOU !!! ;-)"
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND?
"Michael : First of all we are writing music that pleases ourselves and we are really happy if there are so many people out there who like what we're doing. We are not a political band, but we write lyrics that are more from the "real life". We don't want to right about fiction or fantasy things, because there are so many things you can write about if you life your live with open eyes and the real life is exciting enough."
"Michael : Unfortunately there are no plans for a bigger tour at the moment. We are playing some shows in Germany from time to time. But we would love to be on tour and also to play in Italy sometime, but this is only possible as a support of a bigger band or beeing invited to a festival.....But please be paitient.....We're working on it, so that the italian people also can visit a LIQUID HORIZON - Show someday...!!!"
YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY?
"Michael : My personal philosophy of life is : "Today is the first day of the rest of your life". That means you have EVERY SINGLE DAY the opportunity to change the things in life that you are not happy with and make it as good and happy as possible for yourself and for all the people that are around you."
THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
"Michael : In the last years the band got bigger and more well known. Our songs, productions and live shows have got bigger and better and for the future I hope the chemistery within the band will stay as great as it is at the moment so we can do the next step(s) forward with LIQUID HORIZON."
ANY LAST REMARKS?
"Michael : Thanks very much for your support and to all the people in Italy...Check out our music on www.liquid-horizon.com And hopefully we'll see you on tour someday..... ROCK THE PLANET !!!"
