::
INTERVIEW TO INHUME
YOUR
NEW ALBUM KILLS!!!
"Thanks a lot man, we sure tried our best to make a brutal as
hell grinding death album. The reviews have been really good and with
this album being released on Osmose we even got reviews in some of the
bigger mags so that is really very cool. (you do not see that many extreme
underground grind/death bands in a mag like "rock hard germany" etc. i
think)."
WHY DO YOU PLAY SO BRUTAL?
"We just have to!, there is no other way hehe. This fall Inhume will exist
for 10 years and all we ever wanted and do is to make brutal grinding
metal. At the moment we are working on our 3rd album and we will make
sure it will even be more brutal then "In for the Kill" but maybe with
some slower (if this is possible at all with inhume) parts since we noticed
not to many people keep up with the speed. (Not slow parts!!! just slower
then our average full speed ahead grindblast terror)."
MAYBE DO YOU LIKE BRUTALITY?
"In music yes, otherwise we are not violent persons at all! With grindcore/gore/deathmetal
it is a lot like horror movies to me, you can write stuff about horrible
serial killers etc. but in the end it is just a song and the lyrics are
fantasy."
ARE YOU BRUTAL AS PERSON?
"Nope, check the above answer."
DO YOU REFLECT SURROUNDING VIOLENCE?
"I don't think so, violence in reality is nothing to be proud of or write
songs about."
WHAT DOES REPRESENT FOR YOU VIOLENCE?
"The only violence with Inhume is musical violence which is just perfect
to us. Most people in metal really enjoy the aggressiveness of the music
and the energetic live performances so that is what we try to do ourselves
as well."
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT YOUR HISTORY?
"Not much to say about our history i guess, for the past 10 years we did
have minimal line up changes and we'll just keep going on making brutal
shit. Most of us play in another band or two as well but with Inhume it
is all about us 6 maniacs grinding your ass off!"
I'D LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE VERY FIRST MOMENTS OF YOUR BAND...
"I remember when we quit with our old band "Malignant" where Roel and
I used to play in Roel got the idea to start a grinding deathmetal band
with as much musicians as possible. At the first rehearsal there where
9 people which resulted in the first line up of Roel - Drums, Loek - Bass,
Richard - Guitar, Johan - Vocals and Joost - Vocals. This was in 1994
and by 1995 they where in the studio recording the first demo when i joined
as second guitar player (after playing in malignant with Roel for 5 years)
since i did not have a band going at that time. By 1997 when we released
our second demo Roel got the opportunity to become famous drumming for
"God Dethroned" and touring all over the world so he decided to leave
Inhume. Richard wanted to concentrate more on his other band "Occult"
so there we where without a drummer and with just me on guitar. We did
find some drummers who would like to fit the drumseat for Roel but none
of them stayed for long and by 1998 we found a new guitar player in Harold
from another dutch death metal band called Mangled. About when we got
ready to record our first album "Decomposing from Inside" Roel decided
to quit God Dethroned and join Inhume again. Since Roel is the only possible
drummer (and founder) of Inhume things fell into place again and within
about 10 rehearsals with Roel back on drums we managed to record "Decomposing
from Inside" which was released on "Bones Brigade" doing very well in
the underground scene. So much for the beginning of Inhume...."
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS DISCOGRAPHY? I NOTICED IT'S QUITE VARIED...
"Well, our biggest "problem" is that we do not have that many releases
especially compared to other bands in the genre who keep releasing split
7" after split 7" and cd after cd etc. Maybe this is just the way of Inhume,
who knows. We are happy with what we release and hope some people like
it as well."
IN WHICH WAYS YOUR NEW ALBUM DIFFER FROM THE PREVIOUS ONES?
"To us "In for the kill" was written in a much shorter time period with
the same 6 bandmembers. On "Decomposing from Inside" you will hear songs
written between 1994 en 1999 with a change in guitar players as well and
on "In for the Kill" all songs are from 2000 to 2003 with the same line
up. The biggest difference to us is in the way we recorded "In for the
Kill". We tried to get it as "inhume-live" as possible so we recorded
both guitar parts and bass part "live" together which gives it a much
dirtier sound (no clean polished death metal sound like we did have on
"Decomposing from Inside", but that is just our opinion)."
WHY DID YOU SIGNE FOR OSMOSE?
"We found out they where looking for a band like Nasum or Inhume and what
could be more like Inhume then Inhume? On the other hand there never has
been any interest for an extremely brutal grind/death band like Inhume
from "bigger" labels since I think it just is not commercially interesting.
So we are very happy with all the things Bones Brigade did for us and
now Osmose!"
WOULD YOU LIKE TO PRESENT YOUR NEW ALBUM 'IN FOR THE KILL'?
"Jip, here it is: The new Inhume album after a 4 year wait since "Decomposing
from Inside". Let the Grinding Madness start all over again!!!"
WHO DO YOU WANT TO KILL?
"Haha, well i would like to kill all morons who make a lot of money on
musicians and bands while nobody seems to understand these musicians rehearse
their asses off, playing for a fucking crate of beer and spending a fucking
lot of money on their so called "hobby"! And on the other hand reviewers
who review a genre of music they know shit about so all they can come
up with is "it sucks" and then sum up some quotes from the bands biography
since they know nothing about the band they write about at all! I do respect
reviewers who actually seem interested and really give an album the time
it deserves. you can not form an opinion on the first listen with extreme
music like our own "In for the Kill "album, I surely can imagine it would
sound all the same but give it a try and you'll find out there is a fucking
lot going on and each song is different!"
DID WE NEED TO KILL TO SURVIVE?
"Well, that is just a flaw of human nature, just look at history. We will
keep killing until there is nothing left to kill!"
WHAT'S ABOUT THE ARGUMENTS YOU DEAL IN THE LYRICS?
"What arguments? We only have lyrics dealing with brutal and absurd stuff,
nothing serious or real so just enjoy the music and bang your head! (which
a lot more people should do!)"
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT YOUR METHOD OF WRITING?
"Usually we write our songs at rehearsal and not at home or whatever.
This way the songs won't become to technical (which we really do not want
to do since we are not a technical deathmetal band!) and more spontaneous!
after the songs are as good as finished our vocalist work on the lyrics
and hopefully it becomes a good and grinding song."
DID YOU START FIRST FROM THE MUSIC OR FROM THE LYRICS?
"We always start with writing the music, like at this moment we have about
5 songs in the works for the new Inhume album which we hope to record
early 2005 and our mainly our vocalists write lyrics (but all of us can
write lyrics) and fit them onto the songs."
SATISFIED WITH THE PROMO WORK OF OSMOSE?
"Well, there where send an awesome amount of promo discs to all mags and
who knows what so a lot of people had a chance to check out "In for the
Kill", besides that we did play on two awesome tours in the past 2 years
so a lot of people got the chance to see us in action all over europe
as well. As an underground band we are happy with anything people do for
us, as long as we get to play live as much as possible we are happy!"
WHEN A TOUR IN EUROPE?
"For now there is a mini tour planned at the end of November / early December
2004 as support for Gorerotted! So we are really looking forward to that
and as you maybe know we did an awesome european tour opening up for Cephalic
Carnage and Exhumed last year as well as a tour with Spawn of Possession,
Disavowed, Inhume and Vile. Two or three years ago we could not have dreamt
of ever doing a tour so we are very fortunate to have done these!!! We
also went to the USA this spring and played at the Maryland Deathfest
as well as some other shows and we just had an awesome week over there!"
THREE OR FOUR WORDS TO IDENTIFY THE BAND?
"Violent Grinding Death Madness!"
