PRESENT YOURSELVES OUR READERS...
"Hi there, this is Valm from Human Ground. Whaz up?"
WHO ARE HUMAN GROUND AS BAND MEMBERS?
"We're just a bunch of regular metal heads. Doing what we like and trying to stay as real as we can. Why should we be somebody else? HG is:
Pille Rand - vocals
Tarvo Valm - guitars, clean vocals
Raivo Piirsalu - bass
Marko Atso - drums."
WHEN DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED THE BAND?
"The idea was born in November 2003 when I still was living in Los Angeles, California. But the real thing started when I moved back to Estonia in summer of 2004. Found the right guys to play with and that how it's started. The band slowly came alive. First gigs, first demos then the album..."
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND...
"In this time period I was doing kinda rock stuff. But I was burning inside to do something faster and more aggressive music. I just started to record my ideas and all of a sudden I found myself so into it. I just got so excited. The first demo song for the HG was "The Carrier Of The Remains". Got great feedback from my listeners and that gave me more motivation to go on with this project. In the beginning I was doing everything by myself, even the "evil" vocals but soon I realized that I'd rather stay playing all the instruments and find the vocalist. But with the time change changed the band plans ... I feel great about where we are at the moment with the Human Ground."
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS?
"In 2004 we released demo called "The Carrier Of The Remains". It contains 3 songs and I think that was a good start. It gave us a good kick and we got pretty good reviews all over the world. On May 2nd 2005, we released our self-titled debut album under the nailboard.org records. I think it's a very interesting piece of art. It's melodic, fast, lots of solos, thrash/death metalish ... uh I don't know. You better listen to it ... Actually we have left out almost 30 minutes material from this album. We don't know yet what we're going to do with it but I'm sure it'll be released in some darky day. And of course we're working with the new material already."
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWING?
"I wanna try out something new. Have lots of ideas and I believe that the 2nd album will be a bit different than the self-titled. To do some experiments you know. But I think it is too soon to talk about it now ... so stay toned!"
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY?
"That the Human Ground was born and we're still alive ..."
WOULD YOU LIKE TO INTRODUCE US "HUMAN GROUND"?
"... With pleasure. At the moment we are 4 piece band 'cause the second guitar player left the band. Nothing serious but he had some other things to do. He just had no time for us and that's why he quit. But we'll go on as we are now. I believe that we sound good and everything will be sound even clearer you know. Oh, forgot about introducing ... uh ... Pille - she's youngest and slightest but making the scariest noise in the band. Raivo is just a quiet guy and Atso is non-alcoholic kick-ass drummer. And me ... I'm just a dude with my guitar."
WHY SUCH BAND NAME?
"Cause we trying to stay who we are - not "The Lord Of The Rings" kinda stuff you know but ... hell yeah I like the movie but ... in our real life we wanna be as real as we can. To stay on the ground you know. And we "sing" about the real things too - about life, about people around us, about you and me. We're humans. So puzzle it together..."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF ALBUM?
"We started the recording session in January 2005, in our own small studio. We recorded all the instruments and vocals over there and then we "moved" to another studio to mix it together. Actually we were pretty confused. The schedule was messed up and some of the songs were that new that nobody was heard them before. Everybody has his or her jobs and schools and girlfriends etc. But after all we made it."
WHAT'S THE MOOD OF IT?
"To talk about the album's energy I think it's there. Some of the songs aren't quite in the same style but altogether it sounds great. The vocals are like the moon and the sun but it brings a special vibe for the songs. Drums and bass are working like the engine. I'm happy about the whole thing. Actually, we have some samples up on our web site. Just go http://www.humanground.net and click on music and you'll find MEDLEY (mix of all 12 songs) and also 2 complete songs from the album ("Read Between The Bones" and "Evening")."
THE SOUND IS THRASHY AND EXTREME AT THE SAME TIME, RIGHT?
"I'm not sure about the extreme part but definitely it is thrashy. I (and most in the band) am the old-school metal head and grew up with 80's metal music. So it'll stay in me forever or at least I've got today's inspiration from this time period. If you're listening old metal bands from the 80's or beginning of the 90's then you can see that they all have their own face. Listen to the music what comes out today it sounds all the same. Mostly ... I'm not saying that we're the brightest star now but I think we've got something what most of the bands doesn't have."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
"So far it has been 10 out of 10. No kidding."
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND?
"We're playing the music we like and hopefully find the group of people who will like our music. That is a great feeling to see how metal heads singing along with you and the horns are everywhere. And we know we'll be never completely satisfied - we want more!!! It happens to everyone."
"No plans yet. We're looking for the agency or management who would be interested about us. So in case some one sees that interview and have good connections then let us know. Any kind of help is welcome!"
YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY?
"To live and let the others live too."
THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
"Dunno and actually don't wanna know. Where's the excitement then?"
ANY LAST REMARKS?
"Of course! We're glad of being here for you and happy that you're there for us. It's like relationship you know. It must happen both sides... Cheers from the Human Ground and keep one eye open for us creeping into a town near you! Sooner or later..."
