:: INTERVIEW TO HEARSE
EVEN IF HEARSE IS A NEW BAND...YOUR BACKGROUND IS PRESTIGIOUS, RIGHT? Well, I guess we´ve all been around in the scene for some years, especially Johan. And I think we´ve learnt quite a lot from that. We won´t make all the mistakes again. Hmmm...we probably will, but what the heck. YOU'RE IN ACTIVITY SINCE 1984... I actually started my first band back in 1979, totally inspired by Kiss, Angel, Alice Cooper and The Runaways. I guess we sounded nothing like the mentioned bands though, he he! Then Johan and I begun playing together in 1984 (bands like Asbest, Devourment and Furbowl etc). Then when Johan quit Furbowl back in 1994 we didn´t play together until we started up Hearse in 2001. Some years later Johan joined Arch Enemy and later on Nonexist and I started up a band called Satanarchy (among many other bands). WHAT DOES ALL THIS EXPERIENCE LEARN TO YOU... Just that I couldn´t live without the music. I ain´t got all the time I had when I was younger as I now have a kid and family and stuff, but without the music I´m pretty sure I would feel so lousy, life wouldn´t be worth living. WHY DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED HEARSE? I was (and still am) in a band called Satanrchy. This band uses to be described as some kinda mix between Slayer, Motörhead, Venom and Discharge. As I make music all the time I also had a bunch of songs that didn´t really fit in that band. So what to do? Of course! Let´s start another band! WHAT'S DIFFERENT AS REGARDS YOUR PREVIOUS BANDS? I think (and a lot of other people also seem to think) that Hearse reminds a lot of Johan´s and my old band Furbowl. And I guess that we think in the same veins as we did back in the Furbowl days when making music. A lot of reviewers seem to think that we remind a lot of Arch Enemy. Don´t really get the point to be honest. I mean, if Johan hadn´t been in the band I´m pretty sure noone would even had mentioned AE! IN WHICH WAYS DO YOU CONSIDER HEARSE AS NATURAL HEREIN OF YOUR BACKGROUND? I think that we pretty much continues where Johan and I quit with Furbowl ten years ago. We still feel no whatsoever limits really and we never think in ways like "is this metal enough?" or anything like that. We just go for it! I'D LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT 'TORCH' 7" INCHES... It´s round and black and contains the songs "Torch" and "Avalon". I guess it was a little teaser before we released the first album. The songs are taken from the same recording session as the Dominion Reptilian album. IN WHICH WAYS DID YOU HAVE BEEN CONTACTED BY HAMMERHEART RECORDS? Mostly by e-mails! They´ve also sent me some smoke signals. WOULD YOU LIKE TO PRESENT YOUR DEBUT ALBUM 'DOMINION REPTILIAN'? The album was recorded back in 2002 and released in the Spring of 2003. Well, looking back at it now I can´t say I´m that bloody proud of it. Would definitely have done a lot of it differently if I would rerecord the album now. WHY THE DIGIPACK AND LP VERSION INCLUDE TWO BONUS TRACKS? Guess it was some kinda "value for money edition". As far as I know he LP version was never released. WOULD YOU LIKE TO DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND? Describing your own sound is always a bit difficult. But I´d say rock music influenced by death and heavy metal. HOW DO YOU SUCCEED IN BEING SO POWERFUL? We were raised by demons. Our souls are black. We also drink a lot of Powerade! I GUESS YOU'RE SATISFIED WITH THE PRODUCTION? The first album sounds terrible, but the second one sounds pretty much the way we wanted to. An organic, natural, quite powerful sound that is pretty much what we aimed for. WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK OF PRESS? The feedback´s been really great! We´ve had some awesome response from the mags, especially in the States, which was a bit unexpected. Then as usual the Swedish press seem to hate us. ARE YOU WORKING AT A NEW ALBUM? You bet! We´re actually in the studio right now recording stuff for the third album. 13 songs are recorded and hopefully we´ll begin mixing the songs next week or so. AND THE FUTURE OF BAND? Well, hopefully we´ll continue playing a couple of more years. And I think that we could release at least three more albums until the inspiration disappears for good. Then some gigging would be cool, even though I feel old just thinking about it, he he! We´ll do some gigs in Holland and Belgium this Autumn anyway. Will definitely be a blast!
