GORY BLISTER

PRESENT YOURSELVES OUR READERS...

Me, on drums, Raff, guitars, Sym, bass and ADRY, vocals

WHO ARE GORY BLISTER AS BAND MEMBERS?
we try to be as professionist as possible. Sometimes it is not easy, cause of job or money you know, but our attitude has to be a professional one, otherwise we would have already quitted!

WHEN DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED THE BAND?
Well, I formed the band in 1991; we began playing as a three piece and after a couple of demos Raff joined Gory Blister in 1993.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND...
Music was the only dream we had, the story tells that many things, good and bad, happened, but we always did walk a long path following our inspiration. It was the golden period when bands like Carcass and Pestilence were still playing! We felt we had something to say in the underground, so we recorded the two demos SPOILT BY GREED and HANGING DOWN THE SOUNDS. People still ask for them now! Then in 1995 me and Raff moved to Milan to keep on playing death metal, cause in South Italy it was very hard at the time. The other members quit, indeed. I think this is the very first part of the story.

WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS?
Joe: so, after a couple of demos we succeeded in releasing our debut mini CD Cognitive Sinergy and in Milan we got a new line up to play with on stage. Indeed, Cognitive Synergy was a recollection of the songs previously recorded, so, in some way, they belong to the first part of the story. At that time we had not a great studio experience yet, so we had not the control on what we were doing.

THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY?
In 2001 we recorded our real first album Art Bleeds and got a deal with Noise records for the Sonickattack project, but it was never realized, so it was Sekhmet records who published the record one year later. Probably for GORY BLISTER, the key event was to be on ROCK HARD Germany compilation titled ÒUNERHORTÓ January 2002. It was an interesting chance to improve the band exposure Europewide. That issue sold over 51.000 copies. Then of course, we have the deal with MASCOT RECORDS, that was the main event for now.

WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWING?
The following is our present and we are talking of our latest release, February 2006!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO PRESENT US "SKYMORPHOSIS"?
It's definitely the best work we did till now. SkymorphosysÕs songwriting puts together all the main experiences we had in the recent past, regarding both live and studio aspects. With Skymorphosis, GORY BLISTER learned how to lead the song production from the very beginning, through the studio sessions to the end of all the process. This time we had the total control during any recording step and the focus on the sound we had in mind up till the finish line. ThatÕs why it has a more personal sound than the previous one. It is an aggressive and no-compromise death metal album and represents what Gory Blister are now, just like a snapshot.

THE SOUND IS AS USUAL A BLEND OF SKILLS AND BRUTALITY, RIGHT?
I feel that Skymorphosis has got a more brutal approach than you can hear in Art Bleeds. As always we have worked on both aggressive and fast arrangements and on the technical aspect of the songs, but I think this time there is a more heavy and fast approach cause we were very aggressive towards life when we arranged and recorded this album. It is natural for a musician to reflect his own feelings while playing. Anyway, our extreme attention to skills and melody has got the same importance as in our past.

I NOTICE ALWAYS IN YOUR SOUND A PROGRESSIVE ROCK HINT, DO YOU AGREE?
Basicly yes, I agree. Rock music is the background from which metal has evolved. It is natural that we all have that starting point, maybe when we first learn to play. Death metal is the outcome of layers of music evolution, where rock basis is pushed to the extreme. We can feel it, and of course you may hear it into our songs.

WHAT'S ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF ALBUM?
we did it also by ourself. Regarding the studio, we use to collaborate with the guys at FEAR STUDIO (ITALY) www.fearstudio.com since we meet them the first time for ART BLEEDS album. In Skymorphosys sessions, we put all our experience we did in making records during past years. We entered the studio with finished songs, everything written, so the focus was to keep control on every session step and give the record the sound and direction we thought in our head. I hope the job is well done. Only the mastering aspect was handled by a professional studio in Holland, and they did a great job too.

ANY PARTICULAR CONCEPT CONCERNING THE ALBUM?
Yes, I tried to give a sort of concept to the whole record. While in the former record I was triyng to investigate the deep artistic need that push someone to express his art, and the related problems of course, with the new lyrics I have tried to write some poetry myself. Since I believe that art and life are on separate plans, I have searched for a new dimension with its time and space, different from the ones we all can experience in our everyday life. So I used the outer space as metaphor of this new world. Once settled this background, I wrote the lyrics. I have imagined stories between planets and stars and between human feelings towards the deep universe. In Quasars there are two dying stars telling each other the last goodbye, or in The Missing Planet, ther is one star who has committed suicide for love. You will find also a relationship between mankind and a failing God (Skymorphosis, Skin Legacy, Blood-sweating Wall and Black Canvas), but donÕt see any religious argument in my lyrics, cause I refer to a metaphysical point of view.

WHAT'S THE MOOD OF IT?
My final target is to focus on feelings and to express my own vision of the world around us, but from an external viewpoint, if possible. Of course I am interested on things outside life, cause life, you know, has got nothing poetica!

THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM?
I think the main aspect is our personal style. Yes, you can still hear some influence from Death and that's natural for us, but anyone listening to SKYMORPHOSIS can agree that we have our personal way of playing death metal now. Fast, aggressive, technical, brutal and metal, but GORY, you can like it or not.

WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
well, the feedback is very excellent for now. We don't have any selling data, but we were on European tour last April and the people reaction was great! Many people already knew about SKYMORPHOSIS!

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND?
simply that everyone can built his own vision of the world by the artistic path, his own personal way! Death metal was born as a reaction to pop/rock music in the eighties; it was a real revolution and even if music business has tried to do what already did with punk, we still believe in death metal as the real alternative music... we will never be commercial!

TOURING PLANS?
We have news that Mascot and Loudnoise are arranging something for next winter, but I do not anything more for now! for sure there will be italian dates!

YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY?
do you remember dave Mustaine's "don't ask what you can do for your country, but ask what your country can do for you"? We try to use everyday life to keep on playing death metal, til we can live by music only, if we can!

THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
For sure writing new stuff, what we are already doing! Don't know, we are used to go on step by step.

ANY LAST REMARKS?
First of all, thank you very much, all of you readers. What I can tell you guys, is to keep on supporting death metal and the emerging bands who you feel they are original. DonÕt stop at what MTV tells you should listen to. Buy new great records and support the bands and our beloved genre of music will have a very long life. See you very soon! Death Metal Is A Form Of Art!
