INTERVIEW TO DARK SKY

"I´m Frank the singer of the band and still the last surviver from the
beginning of the DARK SKY band."
WHO ARE DARK SKY AS BAND MEMBERS?
"Additional to me there are Steffen the guitarist, Uwe the drumer, Claudio
our keyboarder and on the bass guitar Winny."
WHEN DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED THE BAND?
"Well, the band was founded in the early 80´s as a schoolband and during
all the years there was a constant changing in the band line up."
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND...
"We were rehearsing twice a week in the cellar of our drumers home. It
was pretty hard to play with the whole band with full sound because upstairs
our drumers parents didn´t like to be disturbed too much. Our live activities
were limited to school partys and local music club events. But soon DARK
SKY received the status of a hopefull newcomer rock band in the region."
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS?
"In 1986 we recorded our first album but before the album could be released
the record company became bankrupt and all our dreams had been bursting.
Even in 1998 after several demo tapes we signed a deal with a malaysian
record company to release the album "Believe it" in Asia. Later in 2000
together with germans record company Goodlife the album was also released
in Europe and became available almost all over the world. With the second
strike "Edge of Time" in 2002 we moved another step forward and good reviews
for the album attained us certainty that we are on the right way."
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWING?
" Now we´re in 2005 and the new album "Living & Dying" is going to be
released this month. Hopefully people will like the new songs and probably
the album will mark another step forward for the band. What´s next? The
future will show."
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY?
"Of course the good fellowship in the band during the last years. This
gave us the power to improve the constant progress of the band. Another
important point were the deals with the record companies in Asia and Europe
we signed in recent years."
COULD YOU INTRODUCE US YOUR ALBUM 'LIVING & DYING'?
""Living & Dying" became a very emmotional album. Even behind the lyrics
there are real stories and this fact is an important part of the songs.
Therefor the meaning of living and dying" is a kind of thema for the whole
album. There are happy, sad and also hopefull stories used for the lyrics.
Recording the drums, keyboards, guitars and bass (my band mates) the boys
made a pretty good job transfering the feeling of these stories to the
music."
WHY DID YOU GET SIGNED BY AOR HEAVEN?
"After the "Edge of Time" album we recorded a five track demo tape in
2004 and offered it to various record companies because our deal with
Goodlife ran out. Fortunately we recieved several offers and we had to
find out which might be the best package for the band. Finaly we signed
the deal with AORHeaven and hopefully it was the right decission."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF ALBUM?
"Again we recorded the album at the Bazement Studio with producer Markus
Teske. And again it was a pleasure and even hard work too. We spent almost
five weeks to record all the stuff and two further weeks to fix the mix.
Keyboarder Claudio improved his abilities in cooking and guitarist Steffen
was still the master of serving beers and drinks for the band."
ANY PARTICULAR CONCEPT CONCERNING THE ALBUM?
"It´s not really a concept album but if you have an eye on the lyrics
you might find out that the stories are all about the grand thema LIVING
& DYING, loving and crying. This might be a kind of concept."
WHAT'S THE MOOD OF IT?
"It depends on the song. For example the song "Living and Dying" shows
the depressive side of soul and the song "See the light" should impress
the hope which could be refreshed every morning again."
THE MUSIC IS VERY AOR/HARD ROCK ORIENTED?
"Well this is where we have our musical roots. We´re only able to write
songs which we like to hear for ourselves. We grew up with bands like
JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, UFO, SCORPIONS and probably their sound left
its mark on our music taste."
THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM?
"For new songs we´re also trying to create catchy hooks with a great choir
in the chorus."
WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
"Most of the reviews are very good and people who have already listened
to the songs are impressed but we know that it´s still impossible to catch
all music taste. So there will be also people who don´t like it."
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND?
"I don´t think that we like to communicate something special with our
sound. But playing music and writing songs and lyrics is one way to assimilate
our experiences."
TOURING PLANS?
"We´d like to support another band touring across Europe but it´s not
so easy. It´s a question of money and connections. First of all we´re
gonna play some shows in the south of Germany and than we´re gonna see
what´s up."
YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY?
"Treat people the same way you´d like to be treatened."
THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
"It depends on the success of the album and the concerts during the next
months. We try to reach as many people as possible to give them the chance
to listen to our sound."
