PRESENT YOURSELVES OUR READERS...
Hi, this is DE/VISION, electro-pop band from Germany
WHO ARE DE/VISION AS BAND MEMBERS?
DE/VISION is: Steffen Keth, vocals, song-writing and Thomas Adam, Keyboard, Lyrics Live the band is supported by: Lars Baumgart, guitars and Markus Köstner, drums
WHEN DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED THE BAND?
DE/VISION was founded in 1988 and had 4 members at that time, two of them left the band.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND...
Steffen and me, we know each other for about 25 years now…we went to the same school…things like that…somehow we lost contact when we were about 15 years old. Steffen started making music with some guys and a few years later we met again and I was asked to join their band…all of us, we simply loved the electronic, new wave music/bands of the 80’s and that’s the sound that inspired our own band…
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS?
In 1990 we recorded and released our first 12inch “Your hands on my skin”, which became quite popular in some clubs…music was still just a hobby for us, we didn’t have a record deal, so we had to do the production and distribution all by ourselves and of course we had to take care of the costs too…but still, these were fantastic days and it would become even more exciting for us ‘cause in 1993 we would record our first album “World without end” after we got our first record deal…
WHAT'S ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWING?
The early albums we have recorded were not of very high quality concerning the production standards…there wasn’t much money involved these days, so we didn’t have a lot of time for recording sessions…”World without end” for example was recorded in ten days…but we soon had a small fan base, our music became more and more popular, more and more records were sold, which took some pressure off our shoulders because now we had the chance to take all the time we needed for recording an album. This gave us the opportunity to work a little more relaxed and more properly, now we could pay more attention to each song…this is one factor that raised the quality of our production to a higher level I think…we had several months for recording “Monosex” already…
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS IN YOUR HISTORY?
1988 DE/VISION was founded
1990 first release: 12inch “Your hands on my skin”
1991 Stefan B. leaves the band
1993 first record deal (Strange Ways records)
1994 first album release: “World without end”
1995 “Unversed in love”
1997 new record deal: WEA Records
1998 “Monosex” is released, our most successful album so far…
2000 “Void” is released, a turning point for the sound of DE/VISION
Markus G. leaves the band; new record deal: DRAKKAR Records
2001 “Two” is released; we also recorded the “Unplugged”-session in that
year, which was a very interesting experience…
2004 “6 Feet Underground”
2006 “Subkutan” & “Best of…”
ANY INTRODUCTIVE WORDS TO "BEST OF..."?
It’s a collection of our WEA and Drakkar-period…the songs are taken from Monosex, Void, Two, Devolution, 6Feet Underground & Subkutan. There’s one brand new song on this album, called “Love will find a way” and the 2CD-set also contains some nice remixes…
YOUR SOUND IS A SURPRISE, RIGHT?
For a person expecting Death Metal, our sound surely is a surprise…
I DEFINE YOUR SOUND AS A PUZZLE...DO YOU AGREE?
Yes, I agree…we try not to be too much focused on one thing…we are open-minded and let all kinds of aspects of electronic music flow into our own sound…a mixture of different styles, put back together to create the sound of DE/VISION…we just don’t want to repeat ourselves over and over again…it’s important to re-invent yourself from time to time and try out things you haven’t done before…
WHAT'S ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF ALBUM?
I assume you’re talking about the “Best of…”??...well, actually there wasn’t a big production process involved for the “Best of…”. The songs and remixes were already done, we simply had to discuss which songs should be on the record…”Love will find a way” was the only song that was written especially for the “Best of…”
ANY PARTICULAR CONCEPT CONCERNING THE ALBUM?
I don’t think there’s a special concept behind a “Best of…”-album except for the fact that it normally contains a band’s single releases…and sometimes some album tracks and remixes as well, as it is in our case…it simply gives you a general idea of the band by offering sound fragments from different periods…
WHAT'S THE MOOD OF IT?
There are all kinds of moods on this album…”We fly tonight”, “Unputdownable” and “The End” for example are rather happy; nice and easy pop tunes…Songs like “The day’s not done”, “Aimee”, “Heart-shaped tumor” and “”Still Unknown” are much deeper and more mature…
”6Feet Underground” is a beautiful, very melancholic electro-ballad that makes you wanna die…there are many sides to this album…although I believe that there is a certain melancholy in all our songs…
THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM?
It contains some great electronic music. Songs with beautiful, catchy melodies and sincere lyrics…
WHAT'S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
I think the fans liked it…
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND?
We want to express that life is beautiful, worth to life and die for…
Right now we’re working on our new album which will be released in August…we will probably be on tour again in October/November…
YOUR LIFE'S PHILOSOPHY?
THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
Who knows the future?? Do you…?? No, neither do I…
ANY LAST REMARKS?
Hello to all our friends and fans…and everybody else of course…
