CONSPIRACY

PRESENT YOURSELVES OUR READERS...

Conspiracy is a diverse extreme metal project of Carpathian Wolf – born in Ukraine, residing in the Netherlands for now. CW is a traveler, he spends a lot of time outside his own recording studio working in United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Norway, Sweden, France and other countries.

WHO ARE CONSPIRACY AS BAND MEMBERS?
At present Conspiracy is a one-man project, although it used to have a full line up in the past. Having and managing the full line-up has proven to be impractical with time, due to my lifestyle and misanthropic character. Other opinions don’t blend into my creative process. They contribute not enough positive matter to cover destructive elements of hostile ego-tripping. After the disbandment in 1995 all the Conspiracy members got engaged in other extreme metal projects. Three of them are still active and have international releases.

WHEN DID YOU HAVE FOUNDED THE BAND?
At present form as a one-man project with reviewed and re-arranged music material in 2004. first line-up under that name in 1993 with the last gig played in 1995. Some riffs in the “reincarnated” album date from 1988.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY FIRST BEGINNING OF BAND...
For as long as I can remember I have tunes playing in my head. I always tried to express them. Since I started to attend piano lessons at the age of 7, the creative tools were revealed to me. Then in the middle of 80’s the metal wave has hit. The metal has infiltrated even our remote mountainous area of Bukovina, not far from the border with Romania - when thrash/speed metal bands from Russia (like Master and Kruiz) visited our town. Being always attracted to the dark side and the mystique of Ukrainian and Russian folk epos (which is often about Tchort, Leshiy, the witches and the dead), some writers like Gogol, painters like Bilibin, composers like Mussorgsky it was obvious for me which direction to choose.

WHAT’S ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS RECORDING-EFFORTS?
I had no chance to record any material for Conspiracy before I moved to another country. When I relocated, I had to serve in the army for 3 years and then I immigrated again with all the consequences of having to start my life from the very beginning again and again. From the second half of the 90’s and until now I composed, produced, recorded and performed with another completely different band. It is signed to Osmose Productions and I appeared on most of its full-length albums. I can not reveal its name just now because I want to avoid comparisons between that band and Conspiracy. They have nothing I common.

WHAT’S ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWING?
I have no interest in following. I do it for myself, for my own need to compose and perform music.

WHY SUCH TITLE?
The title is not only one of my oldest compositions but it also reflects the fact that an abandoned music ambition can be revived, like the band Conspiracy itself. And it does not matter how much time it takes to achieve the outcome which many will enjoy.

YOUR ALBUM IS PURE BLACK/HEAVY METAL MAYHEM, RIGHT?
Right, though I am not fond of the word “mayhem” – there are certain associations attached to it in the genre.

WHAT’S ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF ALBUM?
Conspiracy is very well arranged and strictly directed and selected collection of composed music, first of all. I tried to preserve the vintage feeling of some parts while adopting them for the modern age. The riffs are not independent from each other, they interact. Almost every part is a logical continuation of a previous part. Most of the songs have a clear heavy metal structure with intro, verses, bridges, solo parts and choruses. The sound of guitars is unpolished, harsh and aggressive. The bass is invisible but provides heavy bottom. I used the DFH superior to make drums, thus the drum sound is real (not synth), but it was programmed and triggered from the computer. I refrained from using keyboards as part of the music, to keep it more aggressive and less dreamy on purpose. Just some effects and noises where done by samplers. Then, there is a lyrical content, it rimes most of the time and is rhythmical and synchronous with music. The lyrics are not obscure – they are easy to comprehend. The content is more on the traditional cliché black-heavy metal side with some minor exceptions. The overall outcome soundwise leaves a place for improvements (to say the least). I think that it could be better, although many people and reviews characterize it as rather good and appropriate.

WHAT’S THE MOOD OF IT?
Mood? Psychopathic hysterical derangement, convulsions of hatred and depressive maniacal disorder. (I had to consult my shrink for this question)

THE MOST SALIENT ASPECTS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM?
Good musicianship, strong melodic material, great cover art by Dan Seagrave on the professionally designed digipack.

WHAT’S ABOUT THE FEEDBACK?
The feedback was positive so far.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SOUND?
TOURING PLANS?

I never intend to tour. My music is composed for listening at home alone or with friends in the car, but better alone.

YOUR LIFE’S PHILOSOPHY?
It changes as I grow older.

But if you insist:
1. My own interest, pleasure and my family come first, then everything else.
2. “Treat others the same way you want to be treated” is a Christian thought which is failing every time when the opponent is not equal to you, does not play by “the rules” and does not have the same system of values. In these cases - it’s a formula for failure or even extinction. You can count on being treated good, even respected, feared and glorified most of the times while being a despot, manipulating public opinion by lying; abusing the weak; bullying and eliminating opposition; using your administrative position to play god even at a small local scale; hurt others for as long as there are a no obvious consequences, etc.

THE FUTURE OF THE BAND?
I do not consider black metal the ultimate way of expression, so it is possible that I will change direction in the future. I want to continue to release material as long as it is special and outstanding. It does not have to occur every year. It will not stay the same. One shouldn’t expect the same mood and sound next time. But despite the changes it will always be the quality music.
