INTERVISTA AI CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER - risponde Les - italian
version
1.
BRIEF US ON THE BAND HISTORY. HOW WAS IT CREATED? WHAT DID YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE
WITH CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER?
- Cryptic was formed in the summer of 1984 when the scene was very young.
We really just wanted to have fun and play music. What we tried to achieve
was originality. We never wanted to sound like anyone else.
The original line-up stayed together for four years and released three records.
After the break up, I moved to Portland, reformed the band and released
one more album. Cryptic toured the U.S. and Europe, met a lot of great people,
had lots of fun, and got to experience a lot of music.
2. TELL US SOME GENERAL THINGS ABOUT THE BAND RELEASES. COMPARE THEM...
- The 1st LP Convicted was almost all speed, which became our trademark.
Money Talks, probably the fan's favorite, was a better balance of speed
and groove, and our songwriting improved quite a bit over the first record.
Stream of Consciousness, although the production is terrible, contains my
favorite songs from the original line-up. Speak Your Peace, the one that
the early fans hate, also has some of my favorite material. The songs were
weird, but hey, we were eating a lot of acid and listening to a lot of Voi
Vod at the time.
3.
WHY HAVE YOU ENTITLED YOUR FIRST ALBUM "CONVICTED"?
- The title was meant to imply that if you act on your beliefs, you
might pay a very high price.
4. WHICH WERE THE REACTIONS OF THE MAGAZINES, THE FANS AND THE LABELS
FOR YOUR REUNION?
- The reaction has been incredibly positive, which is very inspiring
to us .
5. IS THERE AN IDEOLOGY BEHIND YOU? HOW DOES THIS INFLUENCE YOUR MUSIC?
- Cryptic was pretty well known for having outspoken and radial political
views. I think we all have individual ideologies and very strong opinions,
and we share those views with each other as a form of expression and education.
We may not always agree, but we respect one another and are open minded
to different points of view. I feel that having a real sense of conviction
in general influences everything you do, including music.
6. HAVE YOU LISTENED TO ANYTHING GOOD LATELY?
- The new records from the Melvins and Queens of the Stone Age are both
great. And, of course, the return of Dave Lombardo to Slayer is not to be
missed, even if the line-up is only temporary.
7. WHICH ARE YOUR 5 ALL TIME CLASSIC ALBUMS?
- You know how impossible it is to answer this question. I would have
a hard enough time picking my favorite 100 albums. OK, in no particular
order;
Led Zeppelin "Physical Graffiti"
Jimi Hendrix "Electric Ladyland"
Jane's Addiction "Nothing's Shocking"
The Doors "The Doors"
Bad Brains "Rock for LIght"
8. THANK YOU! HAVE I FORGOT TO ASK YOU ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
- We totally appreciate all the support from you and from our fans around
the world. And be sure to check out CrypticSlaughter.com, our site which
will be up soon. Cheers.
