:: INTERVIEW TO KEVIN
HEYBOURNE FROM ANGEL WITCH - italian version
First
of all, I’d like to know how was Bang Your Head experience; I heard you
played a very suggestive show…
I am not sure what you mean by suggestive, but Bang Your Head was great
considering we went on stage at 10:40 am and about 10,000 fans got up to
see the show. We played material only from the first Angel Witch album and
the singles, by request of the promoter.
Among all bands coming back together to make a reunion in this period,
a lot of people are wondering, what drives you and your band to come back
on stage: what you’d like to answer?
Witch is and shall be. What drives any man to do what he KH - This was not
a reunion this is the way Angel loves? The fans are always a big factor
as to why we hit the stage. There is nothing like performing your music
on stage and interacting with the fans during a live show.. it's almost
as good as an orgasm.
Another
brand new line-up for Angel Witch. What happened to Tom Hunting? (Introduce
us Darren Minter).
This actually is no new line-up. I have worked with Jon Torres since 1990,
and consider him one of the longest standing members of Angel Witch. I have
been friends with Lee Altus since 1989 but never played in a band with him.
The original plan was to have Tom playing drums, as he was a part of Angel
Witch in 1990, but because Exodus had an album to record and a tour to follow
it became a conflict of schedules so we recruited Darren Minter who has
played with Lee Altus in Heathen and Die Krupps. Darren is a very solid
and fucking loud Drummer, perfect for Angel Witch.
Angel Witch always changed the members of the band; do you have an idea
why this happened, and what do you think about the brand new line-up?
There have been many members in Angel Witch. I guess I have always been
looking for the line up that works, sometimes you have to try on a bunch
of shoes before you find the pair that fits you the best. I feel that finally
I have the right line-up. Jon, Lee, and Darren are not just great musicians,
great song writers, but good friends and Angel Witch for all of us is a
"labor of love". I have said before this will be the last Angel Witch.
Today
your sound goes towards a kind of power-speed, even when you play your classic
songs. Do you think Angel Witch are meant to go on this way?
We actually make a concious effort to keep the Tempo's as near to the original's
as possible, in the past there have been some pretty wild renditions. How
boring is a band that stays the same, plays the same, sounds the same after
20 years. What do you think will happen to any band that has 3 Bay Area
thrash musicians? Your bound to grow an edge, however, we plan to keep to
the original Angel Witch ideals on the new album.
About this fact, after several years, what do you think about "Resurrection",
an album which people didn't appreciate so much...
I don't know why you would say people didn't appreciate Resurrection, considering
it has been issued three times, by three different companies, plus bootlegged,
and still selling to this day. We hadn't had any new product for a while
and decided to release "Resurrection" for the fans, which was a bunch of
old Demo's plus a mixture of songs Jon ,Tom, and myself had written. I personally
like Psychopathic, Twist of the Knife, Slowly Sever, as it was the original
U.S.A. 1990 line up.
When we talk about your band, we often refer only to your first homonymous
album, without mentioning what you did after. Do you mind this?
Of course I don't mind ,that first L.P. is a very hard album to follow.
However, I think you are all in for a few surprises.
... And then, there is among your discography a live album you don't
recognize as an official album...
Sorry...which Live Album? 82 revisited or Angel Witch Live at the Troubador
Live at the LA2?
...Live At The LA2...
I’ve never really liked live albums as it is the moment that makes it...
not reproducing that moment.
It is very important to me to make this question: how do you feel when
people says that Angel Witch (even if you did't reach the success as Iron
Maiden and Saxon) is considered one of the most important band for NWOBHM?
I have always wondered why Angel Witch got the credit for that but nothing
more than that. Considering some of the biggest bands in metal have been
influenced by Angel Witch. I suppose it's a cool thing to have.
Talk me about your future; what are your programs?
At the moment Angel Witch is in the process of writing new material and
shopping for not only a good deal but a label that will believe in what
we are doing, we are also working on tours and Festival dates for next year
with the new product. Anyone that would like to follow Angel Witch can log

Thank you Raw and Wild and also to any Witches out there hope to see you
