INTERVIEW TO IN HUMATE

I'm very glad to interview you!!!!!!! I'm very curious, so try to introduce
your band and your persons.
HUMATE is a real band with a real bio and real life !!! So, here is our
bio : HUMATE started in 1990. From that time just David (guitar and backing
vocals) and me (bass) are still playing. After 2 vocalist and drummer changes,
we have a stable line up since October 1994 when Christophe (vocals) and
Yannick (drums) joined us. Before their arrival we did just one demo "Abstract
Suffering" (4 tracks / 1993). With the actual and definitive line up we
recorded another demo "Grind Your Soul" (7 tracks / 1995) and 3 CD "Internal
Life" (18 tracks / 1996), "Ex-Pulsion" (13 + 1 tracks / 1997) and "Growth"
(17 tracks / 2000).

What's happening in the band at the moment?
For the moment we're working on some new material for our 4th full length
album "Life". Unfortunately I can't give you a release date for the movement…
3. What does inspire your music?
I don't know how people feel our music, but I hope they don't feel it with
a bad feeling… because in INHUMATE we enjoy what we do, and we don't do
that because we think that everything's bad on Earth. If we were so pessimist
than we'd better kill ourselves than play this absolute great fucking music
!!! An HUMATE show is a full of life show !!!!

Talk about your influences. What do you think about present brutal grind
gore underground scene?
When we started we were really influenced by bands like CANNIBAL CORPSE,
NAPALM DEATH, PESTILENCE, CORONER, VENOM, etc.. Now things changed because
we're older and have a different vision of the scene and music. We're more
into the deepest underground and less interested in the "commercial" scene
that brings only what big labels sign and don't fucking care with the underworld
which is full of great interesting brutal bands !!! Now about the grind
gore actual scene I think there are many interesting bands like DISGORGE
(Mex), SANITY'S DAWN, ATAVISM, etc… I think it's good but the gore image
is getting a bit boring, too many bands use it…
5. So, best underground band at the moment and best band that you love.
Best underground band of the moment I don't know… Interesting bands are
PROFANITY, ALIENATION MENTAL, FATE, IMPERIAL SODOMY, C.V.I., INTO THE GORE,
DEPRAVED, etc… Too many to mention. My best band of all time ??? Maybe is
it VENOM ? Maybe MÖTORHEAD, I don't know, really don't fucking know…

Talk about your releases.
All our previous releases and coming releases are making a united project,
we call it our heptalogy (a 7 albums concept). So here is the explanation
of it : Those 7 albums will be 7 steps of a human life and will try to show
that life never ends, so if life never ends then there is no time left and
we arrive at what we call the Abolition of Time. Some people gonna tell
me that life ends when a guy dies, and to this I answer that in the normal
way of life all person should give birth to a child, in that case life goes
on through the child, ok ? So when the parents gonna die, life won't end
because the child will carry it. And when that child will die (in a normal
age I mean) it should have been the same, that child, when he'll be an adult,
he should have given life to his own child… So, when the try to understand
what life is for the all humanity, you can't understand when it begins and
when it will end, can you ? And time cannot be counted into a so wide moment,
is there then a real time ? Can't it be abolished ? I think that yes, because
he human brain isn't strong enough to understand all those things. So, that
was for the whole concept. And we try to put this, to explain this through
our cover artworks (and a little bit through the lyrics). Our first CD "Internal
Life" was dealing with the life before life, the life inside the mother.
The second one, "Ex-Pulsion", which means the moment of birth in French,
is about that time. When you got the whole complete CD, you can see the
pictures of that moment, maybe the biggest traumatism that all human people
has to feel in it's life. At the back side of the CD you can see pictures
of the four elements because when you arrive on Earth that's the first thing
you have to face. The third CD, "Growth" deals about all the young years,
the teen ages years. On the back side of this one there are the zodiac symbols
and planet of HUMATE musicians because they symbolize the entity HUMATE
as a total of the four musicians spirit ! 5hope my explanations are not
too hard, but it's difficult to explain all this in English...). Next CD
should be "Life". We are already talking a lot together about that next
CD and we already have some good ideas for it, but I have to keep them secret
for the time. All I can say it's that we wanna make something special because
it will be the exact medium CD of the whole heptalogy !!! Then the fifth
one will be named "The Fifth Season", sixth one "Death" and the last one
"Eternal Life". With this last CD, we close the concept and in the same
way that the name sounds like the first CD, the story begins again, and
never ends as long as there will be human people on Earth. Now the only
thing we hope is to be able to finish this long concept... So, hope my explanations
were not too boring, but now you understand what "Growth" means for us,
it's just a step into something much bigger.
7. How can you define your personal evolution as musicians?
I don't know… I'm not a "good" musician… I'm playing music because I love
it and music is for me more than just practising an instrument, it's all
that goes around with the scene. You know, when I'll stop working for the
underground scene, I'll stop playing bass guitar….
8. What do you think about Italian brutal gore grind scene? Do you know
some persons in Italy?
I don't know many people into the Italian gore grind scene… But I know bands
like NATRON, DYSMORFIC, BASTARD SAINT, fanzines like MONSTROSITY, AK.O.M.,
etc… And so more contacts but I don't remember them now.
9. Talk about your lyrics and how would you describe your music?
Our lyrics deal with kind of philosophical ideas… We try to get out of the
common gore lyrics and deal with topics about life and death, reasons of
our existence, etc… Nothing new I know We also have many lyrics dealing
directly with the music topic, understanding what does this fu**ing music
means to us, why do we need to lay it, what can it brings to us ? etc… About
our music is a kind of grind / death. I don't think we can compare it to
any other band, as after 12 years of existing and 2 demos and 3 CD HUMATE
finally found its own style. You don't believe me ? The best thing is to

10. What do you want to communicate when someone is at your show or is
listening to your music?
Pleasure & fun !!!! An HUMATE show is a great positive moment and as people
get their head grinded when they listen to our music on a CD, they can understand,
feel and see the ultimate stage power of an absolute stage trance band !!!
We are absolutely against the classical statue poseur death metal bands….
A stage band must show energy and sickness or fucking die !!!
